The sound of silence
Wasn’t it stressfull enough that ladies had to have a Mammography examination. The breast cancer screening process was always a worrying time, but when the loud noises from the X-ray machine reverberated around the room, it did nothing to calm the nerves.
You may not be aware that the noises were caused by ball bearings working within the X-ray tube of the screening machine.
Because they work in a vacuum and also at extremely high temperature, they have traditionally created high vibration and hence noise.
myonic has now developed, in conjuction with its customers, a ball bearing that has special surface coatings and geometry, which results in the reduction of noise and therefore stress to the user.
Additionally these developments have been used in the development of Computer Tomography (CAT scans) which also have a requirement to compensate for high centrifugal loads. Again the sound of silence can be heard.
